I'm dreaming of a white Christmas...
4/30/2014 5:46:54 PM
Well, not really, not yet - but it's 30 April so I am busy designing my Christmas collection - and I am aware I'm probably on the late side. I should probably have been thinking Christmas 2014 in October 2013.
Field trips

I'm always thinking about new designs - inspiration pops up at the oddest times - usually when I don't have a pen and paper to note them down. But there are certain times of the year when I deliberately go looking.

Loads of beautiful designs this week on Cross Stitch Showcase - but there was one that really stood out for me and I don't think I've shared this designer's work before.
Further proof that cross stitch is good for you

I'm not sure whether it's the mechanics of stitching that have eased this gentleman's problems or whether he just wasn't going to give in until he'd finished but hats off to Alan Bramley.
Tweeding

Nope, nothing to do with cloth made in the Outer Hebrides. In cross stitch tweeding is used for two reasons.

I've cheated slightly this week - three of a series of designs were posted on Facebook's Cross Stitch Showcase page but they didn't include the one I've selected.
Lady Elinor: Expect Trouble - backstitch
4/17/2014 7:11:02 PM
When putting together the back stitch instructions for the new Lady Elinor design (yes, it is inspired by my wardrobe!) I realised I missed something off the the instructions on the first Lady Elinor chart.
Aida v evenweave
4/14/2014 5:08:15 PM
I've noticed some heated debates on the cross stitch groups I belong to on the merits of Aida versus evenweave. Like most people my first stitching attempts were on Aida.

A very difficult choice this week - the themes of music, wine and chocolate brought out some really clever ideas from the designers on the Cross Stitch Showcase page.
How to make a cross stitcher very cross
4/9/2014 4:35:01 PM
For the most part cross stitchers are happy in their own little world, ignoring the housework and hiding their stash and all those UFOs (unfinished objects) but some things really annoy them...
Something's wrong
4/7/2014 12:48:40 PM
This week I had the privilege of setting the themes for the Facebook page Cross Stitch Showcase. And this morning I realised I had a problem...

One of the themes in this week's Cross Stitch Showcase page on Facebook was monocrhome. Choosing a monochrome design is a great way for a new stitcher to personalise something - simply pick a different colour!
Who are cross stitchers?
4/2/2014 11:19:32 AM
Well, according to a survey of members of Facebook cross stitch groups 97% of cross stitchers are female and we're younger than everyone thinks we are (definitely a Good Thing!)..
